Student Seminar 2024

On September 5th 2024, the CBRC held the 6th Weinstat Graduate Student Seminar to encourage cancer research at Tel-Aviv University.

 

 

This year, for the sixth time, the Esther and Zvi Weinstat Award was given to 13 graduate students who are engaged in cancer research. The winners were selected by members of the CBRC committee from 25 research abstracts that were submitted by TAU students..

 

The event was opened with a eulogy delivered by Dr. Raya Leibowitz in memory of the donors Esther and Zvi Weinstat. This year Raya dedicated her words to the memory of Esther Weinstat. Her illness and Zvi's passion for science and education initiated their donation to CBRC.  Her kind words were followed by an exciting opening lecture delivered by Prof. Uri Ben-David titled "Cancer aneuploidy: Tackling an age-old mystery with cutting-edge tools". Later, each of the awarded students presented a 3-minute overview of their work.

 

The prizes were divided into three financial categories in the following list:

  • 1-4 won 4000 NIS
  • 5-9 won 2000 NIS
  • 10-13 won 1000 NIS

Student Seminar 2023

On September 13th 2023, the CBRC held the 5th  Weinstat Graduate Student Seminar to encourage cancer research at Tel-Aviv University.

 

 

This year, for the fifth time, the Esther and Zvi Weinstat Award was presented to 13 graduate students who are engaged in cancer research. The winners were selected by members of the CBRC committee from 22 research abstracts that were submitted by TAU students.

 

Unfortunately and unlike all the previous events, this year’s award ceremony was held in the absence of the donor Zvi Weinstat, who passed away on March 2023.

 

The event was opened with a eulogy delivered by Dr. Raya Leibowitz in memory of the donors Esther and Zvi Weinstat. Her kind words were followed by an exciting opening lecture delivered by Prof. Vered Padler-Karavani titled "Targeting the sweet spot of human diseases". Later, each of the awarded students presented a 5-minute overview of their work.

 

The prizes were divided into three financial categories in the following list:

  • 5-9 won 2000 NIS
  • 10-13 won 1000 NIS

On September 22nd 2022, the CBRC held the 4th Weinstat Graduate Student Seminar to encourage cancer research at Tel-Aviv University.

The event in the presence of Zvi Weinstat, CBRC committee members, students, friends and family was opened by an exciting lecture by Prof. Shai Izraeli, director of the Hematology-Oncology Department at Schneider Children’s Medical Center. The lecture was followed by short presentations by the young scientists. 

 

We are grateful for the generous donation made by Esther and Zvi Weinstat that made this event possible.

 

We hope to continue this tradition in the future in order to encourage innovation and excellence in cancer research at Tel-Aviv University.

Awards for outstanding abstracts at CBRC 2021 2nd semester virtual seminar >>

 

Student Seminar 2020

On September 8th 2020, CBRC held the 2nd Zvi and Ester Weinstat Student Award Symposium.

 

 

The generous support by Mr. Zvi Weinstat to the "Cancer Biology Research Center" enabled nine Tel-Aviv University young graduate students whose research is focused on cancer, to win an award for outstanding research achievement.

 
 
Due to COVID-19 pandemic, CBRC held a modest award ceremony in the presence of the winners, CBRC Committee members, the donor and his family only.

Student Seminar 2019

On June 17th, 2019, CBRC held the first Ester and Zvi Weinstat Student Award Symposium.

 

 

The symposium was the result of the generous support by Mr. Zvi Weinstat to the "Cancer Biology Research center" for the promotion of research and education in the field of cancer.

 

This generous donation enabled six young graduate students from the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Life Sciences to win an award of 6000 NIS for outstanding research achievement.

 

The symposium was opened with a lecture by Dr. Raya Leibowitz followed by presentations given by the winning  students.

 

We hope to make this symposium an annual event to encourage graduate students to further advance cancer research at Tel-Aviv University
