A joint two-day symposium was held at IIT Bombay on the 25-26 of November 2019, discussing different approaches for anti-cancer drug development. The symposium was initiated and sponsored by Sunpharma and organized jointly by the Dep. of  Biosciences & Bioengineering IIT Bombay and the CBRC.

The symposium commenced by opening remarks from Mr. Dilip Shanghvi, founder and  managing director of Sunpharma , Prof. Subhasis Chaudhuri,  director of IIT Bombay and Prof. Dan Peer Chair of CBRC.  Prof. Peer described TAU international programs as well as the academic and scientific activities at TAU. During the two-day meeting, twenty-nine scientists from the three institutions presented different aspects in cancer research such as immunotherapy, hemato-oncolgy, drug delivery and drug discovery.    Twelve scientists from the Cancer Biology Research Center (CBRC) at Tel-Aviv University, presented their state of the art projects.

Discussing future collaborations

These scientists: from the Faculty of Medicine - Prof. Drorit Neumann, Prof. Ronit Satchi-Fainaro, Prof. Noam Shomron, Prof. Ariel Munitz, Dr. Motti Gerlic, Dr. Michael Milyavsky and Dr. Asaf Madi, from the Faculty of Life Sciences Prof. Dan Peer, Dr. Dinorah Freidman- Morvinski, Dr. Vered Padler-Karavani and Faculty of Exact Sciences Prof. Yuval Ebenstein, represent the diversity and enormous effort invested in cancer research at Tel Aviv University.

Between the scientific sessions faculty members and students at IIT Bombay and Sunpharma met with the Israeli scientists and discussed prospects for future collaborations. In addition, members of the TAU delegation visited the research labs and the impressive scientific infrastructure at the Dep. of Biosciences & Bioengineering at IIT Bombay.

This event should encourage different avenues for scientific collaborations between the institutions. PhD and postdocs students were interested to learn more about TAU international programs and options for research positions at TAU. Specific collaborations between the scientific teams are already being established based on the successful meetings.
