World Cancer Day 2025 |

On February 2nd, 2025, Tel Aviv University, through the Cancer Biology Research Center, hosted for the fifth time a special meeting acknowledging International World Cancer Day. Ten outstanding speakers from Sheba Medical Center, Weizmann Institute of Science, Bar-Ilan University, Hadassah Medical Center, Technion, and Tel Aviv University presented the forefront of cancer research in Israel.
The World Cancer Day is an initiative of the International Union for Cancer Control (UICC), the International Cancer Organization that initiates international activities to raise awareness and reduce the burden of cancer in the world. The global event aims to increase cancer awareness and education through the involvement of government organizations, academia, and industry.
The Cancer Biology Research Center (CBRC) unites all cancer research that is conducted at the TAU campus as well as the multiple affiliated medical centers. The activity includes 100 research groups studying all aspects of cancers, advancing the deep understanding of the disease, and introducing innovative approaches to detect, treat, and cure cancer. The CBRC provides numerous research grants and student travel awards and hosts special seminars and annual events like The World Cancer Day.
The 2025 event in Israel was opened by welcoming notes from Prof. Ronit Satchi-Fainaro, chair of the Cancer Biology Research Center, and Prof. Dan Peer, TAU vice president for research and development, and it was broadcast live via YouTube. Over 300 people viewed the entire event online in the first 24 hrs., and over 120 people were in the audience.

On February 4th, 2024, Tel Aviv University, through the Center for Cancer Biology Research, hosted World Cancer Day for the fourth time. Tel Aviv University scientists and physicians from affiliated medical centres, in collaboration with researchers from Rambam Medical Center in Haifa, Bar-Ilan University, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Hadassah Hospital, and the Weizmann Institute, presented the forefront of research in the field in Israel.
World Cancer Day is an initiative of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), an international organization that leads and initiates international activity to raise awareness and reduce the burden of cancer worldwide. The global event, which takes place every February 4, is designed to increase awareness and education about cancer through the involvement of government organizations, academia, and industry.
The scientific seminar was opened by welcoming notes from Prof. Ariel Porat, Tel Aviv University President, followed by Prof. Ronit Satchi-Fainaro, chair of the Cancer Biology Research Center.

Ten outstanding speakers from Tel Aviv University, Weizmann Institute of Science, Bar-Ilan University, the Hebrew University and Hadassah Hospital, Technion and Rambam Medical Center and the Ben Gurion University at the Negev, presented the forefront of cancer research in Israel.
World Cancer Day is an initiative of the International Union for Cancer Control (UICC), the International Cancer Organization that initiate international activities to raise awareness and reduce the burden of cancer in the world. The global event held annually on February 4, aims to increase cancer awareness and education through the involvement of government organizations, academia and industry. The scientific seminar held at other European cities is under the auspices of the NOBEL Organization.
The event in Israel was opened by TAU vice president for research and development Prof. Dan Peer, and broadcasted live via YouTube to thousands of listeners. The event is organized by Prof. Ronit Satchi-Fainaro, chair of the Cancer Biology Research Center CBRC with generous sponsorship by Merck and Teva Pharmaceuticals Ltd. Researchers and clinicians from the campus and from the affiliated medical centers as well as researchers from the Rambam Medical Center, the Weizmann Institute, Technion, Bar-Ilan University, the Hebrew University and Hadassah Hospital, presented the forefront of research in the field in Israel.

On February 3, 2020, cancer researchers from academic and medical centers in Israel represented Israel on the World Cancer Day. World Cancer Day is an initiative of the International Union for Cancer Control (UICC), the international cancer organization that works to lead and initiate international activity to raise awareness and reduce the burden of cancer in the world.
The global event, which takes place every year on February 4, aims to increase cancer awareness and education through the involvement of government, academic and industry organizations. The scientific seminar held simultaneously in 5 other European cities under the auspices of the European NOBEL organization was broadcast live on the Internet to thousands of listeners.
