A Simple Blood Test Could Transform Early Cancer Detection

Inspired by a personal family experience, Prof. Yuval Ebenstein and his team at Tel Aviv University have developed an innovative blood-based approach for early cancer detection.

Working in collaboration with hematologists, the researchers identified subtle epigenetic changes in DNA that can signal the presence of cancer at its earliest stages.

Their technology detects these molecular signatures without the need for DNA sequencing, making the test significantly more affordable than existing methods while opening new possibilities for routine screening and disease monitoring.

The research has led to the establishment of JaxBio, a Tel Aviv University spin-off company developing accessible blood tests for cancer detection and patient monitoring.

In recognition of this breakthrough, Prof. Ebenstein was selected as one of the researchers supported by the European Cancer Mission under the Horizon Europe program, which promotes innovative research in cancer prevention, early diagnosis, and personalized treatment.
