Prof. Erez lab studies the link between inflammation and cancer and the role of cells in the micro-environment of the tumor in various stages of cancer development - from the early stages to the development of metastases.
Although metastasis and not the original tumor is responsible for most cancer mortalities, very little is known about the micro-environment of the metastases. Understanding the molecular communication pathways between the tumor cells and the micro-environment cells will enable the development of new drugs that combine treatment with the tumor environment.
These issues are studied using transgenic mice models with emphasis on a breast cancer model, which sends metastasis to the lungs.
